
Brian Headman is a litigator, trial attorney, and advisor with expertise in complex, high-stakes disputes. Brian represents government, public entity, and private clients, and has an established record of success in difficult matters. Brian’s litigation work focuses on three primary areas: construction claims, commercial litigation, and serious wrongful death and injury cases.
Construction Claims. Representation of owners and construction professionals in claims and litigation arising from public and private projects. Emphasis on heavy civil infrastructure, transportation, rail, utility, water, education facilities, multi-family, and commercial development. Successful resolution of claims for delay and disruption, acceleration, changed/unforeseen conditions, defective work, design disputes, prompt payment, and complex insurance and surety-related matters. Brian has worked on some of the largest projects and claims in the State.
Commercial Litigation. All forms of commercial disputes, including those involving breach of contract, business torts, fraud, corporate and partnership disputes, trade secrets, and unfair competition. This work has included high-profile public agency disputes, state and federal false claims act cases, education/charter school writs and appeals, and real estate nondisclosure actions.
Wrongful Death and Injury. Serious product liability, death, and injury cases, with a focus on litigation arising in the construction, real estate, and government contracting sectors. In the past 10 years, Brian has successfully resolved more than $150 million in claims on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants.
As an advisor, Brian emphasizes strategic, practical solutions. Brian handles sensitive negotiations and counsels clients on matters involving public and private contracting, procurement, California Coastal Act/Local Coastal Program compliance, public agency dispute resolution, and FOIA and California Public Records Act issues.
