Todd Theodora is the Chairman and CEO of Theodora Oringher, a nationally known law firm, ranked by the Wall Street Journal and other publications, as being Best in Class and Top Tier in California. He was admitted to the Bar in 1985.
Todd has been named by his peers and other attorneys to virtually every “Best” list featuring the nation’s and state’s top attorneys, including America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators, The Nation’s Top 1% of Attorneys, The Top 100 Lawyers In California, and The Top 50 Lawyers In Orange County, California. His peers who were awarded recognition in Best Lawyers in America have named him, “Lawyer of the Year,” in Litigation. He is listed in Best Lawyers In America, and has a peer review rating of “AV” with Martindale-Hubble, by both attorneys and judges, the highest possible rating.
Todd is perhaps best known for his long career as a jury trial specialist. As lead counsel, he has tried over 75 cases to verdict. He regularly teaches trial techniques and strategy.
Todd has been featured on network television, and portrayed in national news magazines including Newsweek, Time, US News and World Report, and Life concerning his handling of litigation and legal issues of national consequence. He was one of the attorneys who represented Monica Lewinsky in the matter involving president Bill Clinton. He served as lead trial counsel for the Angels Baseball team in the suit brought by the City of Anaheim against the Club concerning the Team’s use of the name “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.” The City also sought more than $300 million in damages against the Team. He won a defense jury verdict for Angels Baseball.
Todd practices in every area of business and commercial litigation, and he has represented many of the most recognized companies in the U.S. His clients conduct business in an array of sectors: technology; healthcare; sports; entertainment; media; real estate; transportation; manufacturing; medical device; construction; private equity and venture capital. He also represents numerous counties and government agencies.
As a business specialist, Todd prosecutes cases on behalf of plaintiffs just as often as he defends cases for defendants. When representing the County of Orange as plaintiff in a recent matter, he obtained the largest breach of contract award in California, after trial commenced.
In 2021, he represented a world renowned plastic surgeon in a breach of contract action against an internationally known corporation. After several months of trial, he obtained a 100 million dollar judgment on behalf of his client.
Clients have reserved Todd to serve as their National Trial Counsel, where he is brought in late stage on cases pending anywhere in the U.S. to serve as lead trial counsel along with local counsel.
Todd was recruited by Stanford Law School to serve on the clinical faculty and to teach in the field of Advanced Trial Advocacy. The Stanford law students have chosen Todd to be lead advisor to Stanford’s elite mock trial team.
Outside the area of litigation, Todd provides to companies and investors strategic advice on complex business issues and transactions. He regularly advises elected officials on matters involving law, business and public policy. He worked closely with the administration of former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and was part of the team that brought about workers’ compensation reform in California.
Todd has been recognized by the Daily Journal as “tops in his field,” and as a leader in the California Trial Bar. In the 1990s, the Daily Journal named him to its list of California’s Top 20 Attorneys Under the Age of 40. While in his early 30s he was admitted into the “invitation only” American Board of Trial Advocates (“ABOTA”) and, at the time, he was the youngest ABOTA member in the United States. More recently he has been featured in Stanford Lawyer magazine for his leadership with Stanford’s Advanced Trial Advocacy programs.
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Todd is admitted to practice in California. He has been admitted Pro Hac Vice in numerous states throughout the country. He is also admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Courts for the Central, Southern, Northern and Eastern districts of California. He is active in the American Board of Trial Advocates, the American Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
Todd was recruited by Tiger Woods and his father Earl to serve as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tiger Woods Learning Center, and he has chaired the Earl Woods Scholar Mentor Committee. He was a founding Board Member and Officer of Shady Canyon Golf Club. He is active in a number of other civic organizations and charities.
Todd was a competitive surfer and was captain of his college’s surfing team.
